Greetings! My name is Kirby. I am a PhD student in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). My research focuses on aerodynamics and turbulence of wind turbines and wind farms in the atmospheric boundary layer. I use large eddy simulations to study turbulence and flow physics, and I am particularly interested in how Coriolis forces, stratification, and wind shear in the atmosphere affect rotor, wake, and wind farm dynamics. Aside from my research at MIT, I am a member of the CEE Graduate Committee and the graduate student mentor to the MIT Wind team.
Outside of the lab, you can find me running along the Charles River, rock climbing, or hiking in the White Mountains in New Hampshire.
